A look at the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the 1st man to walk on the Moon on July 20 of 1969.
Director: Damien Chazelle
Writers: James R. Hansen (book), Nicole Perlman (earlier screenplay)
Stars: Claire Foy, Ryan Gosling, Jon Bernthal
A Biopic on the life of well-kown American Astronaut Neil Armstrong from 1961-1969, on his journey to becoming the first human to walk the moon. Exploring the sacrifices and costs on the Nation and Neil himself, during one of very dangerous missions in the history of space travel.
Damien Chazelle pilots the proverbial shuttle of First Man (2018) as director, working off a script by Josh Singer (The Fifth Estate, Spotlight), adapting James R. Hansen’s 2005 biography, First Man: The Life of Neil Armstrong. Chazelle has quickly risen in the industry ranks as an elite helmer, coming off success from his 2014 written and directorial effort Whiplash, for which he received an Oscar nod for Best Screenplay. He would go on to become the youngest moviemaker ever to win an Oscar for Best director with his La La Land. Anyway, with First Man, we will likely see the more introspective side of Chazelle’s moviemaking style, following Hansen’s original book, which was a nuanced literary glimpse at the most-cited trivia name from the Apollo 11 moon mission, illustrating a more complex analysis of the man beneath the helmeted veneer.
